Following a career in commercial illustration, I completed a full-time MA in Fine Art in 2008. I made a raft trip of 1000 miles down the Mississippi in the summer of 2009, during which I constructed a series of spirals with found materials on the sandbars and riverbanks, photographing the results. Installation using mainly natural materials in the landscape has become an important part of my subsequent practice. My core concerns in making this work are: to draw my audience’s attention to the nature of the materials with which I construct my installations; the appearance of each installation in relation to its surrounding landscape; to provoke reflection upon the underlying complexity of naturally occurring forms and structures. My practice also includes text-based pieces and some three-dimensional figurative work.
